The Stage-Gate Annex

Preparation and follow-up for formal project decisions.

The Usual extension

Each project gate receives a pre-gate readiness review and a post-gate interpretation review. The first checks whether the gate can be convened. The second confirms what the convened gate meant. A project therefore has three opportunities to discover that it brought the wrong document.

Inside the process

A team reaches design approval. The pre-gate asks for an implementation assumption, while implementation planning requires design approval. The sponsor may resolve the loop by issuing an exception, which then requires its own annex.
