Service Dependency Mapping

Following the mission beyond the visible service boundary.

Program approach

Dependency mapping records the people, systems and outside services required for an activity to continue. It includes informal support where that support is operationally significant. The map is reviewed with service owners rather than treated as a diagramming exercise performed around them.

The working record
  1. 01Service
  2. 02Dependency
  3. 03Contact
  4. 04Consequence

Delivery example

A routine reporting service depends on a manually prepared file from another team. Mapping reveals the timing and recovery arrangements needed when the preparer is absent. The program can then address the dependency instead of discovering it during a deadline.
