The Pilot Exit Framework

Helping successful experiments leave the demonstration room.

The model

A pilot begins with a decision it is intended to inform. It ends with a choice to stop, revise or operate, supported by evidence and an identified service owner. A showcase can accompany the decision but cannot replace it.

In practice

A prototype works well for twelve volunteers. Scaling requires support, data access and a budget. The framework asks who will own those obligations before the prototype is announced as an enterprise capability. A limited test is useful before presentation standards are complete; it becomes expensive when the pilot acquires a permanent audience and no support owner.
