The sequence
An integration lead uploads a folder of proposed acquisition materials to a personally purchased AI service for an immediate summary. The folder contains draft pricing, employee names and legal advice. The summary is competent. The upload itself is the event.
The exposure
IT Security cannot establish where copies of the uploaded material may persist. Legal assesses whether privileged advice and confidential employee information were exposed; the counterparties demand an account before continuing. The proposed deal pauses, its price is reconsidered and the company faces the prospect of claims from people whose information travelled with it. The ten-minute summary becomes the least expensive part of the transaction.
The control point
Use only a registered tool cleared for the material. If no approved service exists, complete the summary through the manual route and request review for future use. The fact that the response looked accurate does not change the status of the input.
Training question
What should the colleague report immediately, and why is deleting the conversation insufficient? The response begins with the data transfer, not with editing the summary.
