Useful Meeting Minutes

Recording what someone absent would need to know.

The lesson

Minutes preserve decisions, actions, conditions and unresolved questions. A transcript may support the record, but it is not a substitute for extracting those outcomes. The aim is to make the meeting useful after the participants have moved to the next one.

Open the scenario and suggested response

A record says the team had a robust discussion of the deadline. What happened to the deadline? The minutes should state whether it changed, who decided and what conditions apply. If no decision was made, that absence is itself worth recording.

Reading this public lesson does not submit a completion record.
