A term such as platform may describe software to one team, a service model to another and a portfolio narrative to a third. All three uses may be reasonable. Confusion arises when a meeting assumes the word has already settled the boundary of the work.

What follows
A short definition tied to the decision can save considerable effort. The group does not need an enterprise dictionary before every conversation. It does need to know what is being selected, funded or changed when a familiar term is doing several jobs at once.
