The observation
Early users forgive rough edges because they are participating in an experiment. Later users may not know that an experiment is involved. Their requests expose the support obligation that grew while the program was still describing adoption as encouraging.

What follows
The transition decision should consider usefulness, cost and the conditions required for continuing operation. A successful pilot can become a supported service or end with useful findings. Both are more coherent than asking its creator to maintain it indefinitely between other assignments.
