The observation
Ambition becomes useful when it changes choices about resources and work. A statement that every initiative is a strategic priority does not stretch the organization so much as remove its ability to distinguish. The result is often a portfolio with excellent language and insufficient capacity.

What follows
A more demanding strategy selects where to act, explains what will wait and connects the chosen work to actual capabilities. The difficult part is usually the second item. Deferring something attractive requires more judgment than adding it to a growing list of commitments.
