Since 1907. Still Brackenmere.
A club built by a town, sustained by its supporters and repeatedly repainted.
The early years
Brackenmere Athletic began in 1907 as a works side, with players drawn from the town’s workshops and railway yards. Borrowed pitches gave way to Morrowbank, and claret shirts became a recognizable Saturday presence. Club records devote considerable space to securing goalposts and rather less to who paid for them.
A place in the town
League reorganizations changed the opponents without changing the journey to the ground. The 1974–75 team completed its home campaign with the same starting goalkeeper. The cup run of 1986 carried the club farther than expected and left a generation of supporters with unusually precise memories of a coach departure.
The next chapter
The Usual partnership supports the club’s first team, community work and presentation of itself to the world. The name, colors and longstanding arguments remain local. Modernization at Morrowbank is measured partly in improved facilities and partly in whether regulars can still find their usual place.
